Today Nobody's clocked out yet

Yesterday nobody clocked out. Someone check the meeting rooms.

How the leaderboard works

One total for one shift

The board ranks one total a day. That total is your first daily score in each of today’s five shift games, added up once you punch the last one.

  • Everyone gets the same five games, so a game with a bigger top score gives nobody an edge.
  • The board starts clean at midnight.
  • Solo rounds stay off the board. So does a shift with a daily round you restarted or played under Take your time. A round like that still punches your time card and earns its pizza slices.

What the board shows

The board holds the ten best totals of the day. Each one has a rank and its owner’s badge name, if there is one.

  • Ties share a rank.
  • The top total wears the Employee of the shift seal. The salary stays the same.
  • Your own row sits at the foot of the board, wherever you place. It shows your badge name, or “You” if you have none.
  • That row says how many points the next place up has on you, and how many places you’ve moved since you last looked. The move is mostly down, since your total can’t change.
  • Yesterday’s shift gets one line in the board’s header.

Team boards

Start a team under the board, then post its link in your team chat. Anyone who opens the link joins the team.

  • Their totals land on the team’s board as well as the public one.
  • HR names the department from its code, so you get something like Agile Synergy Pod. Nobody has to type a name or approve one.
  • Departments are ranked by average total once two of their people clock out on the same day. That’s two out of the 5 or 6 people on a typical team at work.
  • Press Leave team and today’s shift comes off the team’s board with you.

New game pings

A button under today’s shift reads Ping me when a new game ships. It pings you for new games and nothing else. Press it again to stop. On an iPhone, put the site on your Home Screen first.

The name on your badge

Your badge name is a nickname shown beside your total. Anyone who opens the board can see it.

  • The round that completes your shift asks for it. You can change it on this page later that day.
  • Up to twelve characters: letters, digits, spaces and . - _ ‘. Nothing HR would have to read out at a hearing.
  • Keep your real name off it and use a nickname.
  • The board shows it beside your total until two days after the day of the shift. After that, your total shows with no name.
  • Leave the badge empty and the board shows a blank line where the name would go.

What the board keeps

Your total goes to the server with the five games, the day, and your badge name and team code if you have them. None of it says who you are, unless your badge does.

Your browser asks the server where your total stands when this page or the games hub opens. It asks again when your last shift game ends, at midnight, and when another tab updates your scores.

  • Each request carries the day, the five games, your total once you have one, a note saying you sent it, and your badge name.
  • This page also asks about yesterday, to fill the line on it in the board’s header.
  • The server answers with totals, counts and badge names, and keeps nothing from the request.
  • Your daily rounds go to the server too, unless you played them under Take your time. That’s how a result can tell you what percentage of the day’s players you beat.

Pizza slices, the time card and best scores stay in your browser, in your personnel file. The privacy page lists all of it, with how long each part is kept.

Where the five come from

Two of our games never land on the shift. Phish or IT and Pay Grade are closer to trivia than to jokes. The rest take turns in three-day cycles, and each one works at least one shift a cycle.

Every shift has at least one game where you pick the answer, one against the clock and one played by a rulebook.
