Reorg, a shell game online with your manager in it

Keep your eye on your boss in this shell game online, where the desks are the shells and your manager is the pea. Everyone gets the same eight reorgs a day, and you can replay yesterday's.

Watch which desk your manager sits at. Then HR moves the desks.

Standard reorg. Eight reorgs, one manager.

Standard reorg. Eight reorgs, one manager. Practice: no slices, no best.

How to play the shell game online

Your manager is at one of the desks, ringed in red pen. Then the partitions go up, and HR swaps the desks around.

Everyone at the desks has a name and a funny job title. Your manager might be the VP of Synergy.

When the desks stop, each one turns into a button labeled Desk 1, Desk 2 and so on. Press the one where your manager is now sitting, or press its number key. A wrong desk scores nothing and breaks your run.

Eight reorgs, each a little worse

A round of eight reorgs takes about a minute and gets harder as it goes.

Part of the roundWhat you get
First reorgs3 desks, 4 or 5 swaps
Later reorgs4 desks, more swaps and faster ones
Last reorgsTwo pairs swapping at once, a swap that goes back, and a look-alike of your manager in the wrong glasses

Good to know

  • Monday’s round has the most easy reorgs, and Friday’s has the most hard ones.
  • With consultants on site, every reorg has a swap that starts and then goes back.
  • On an efficiency drive, every swap moves a quarter faster.
  • During a post-merger integration, every reorg with four desks has two swaps where both pairs of desks trade at once.

Tick Take your time before you start, and the desks slow to half speed. A round played that way sets no best. With reduced motion on, each swap happens in one step, and the two desks that traded get an outline and an arc between them. The pause after each step gets shorter as the reorgs get harder.

How Reorg scores

Right desks in a row build a bonus. Speed earns nothing, so there’s no reason to guess early.

What you doPoints
Pick the right desk100
Pick the right desk after other right desks in the run25 more for each of them
Eighth right desk in a row275
Pick the wrong desk0, and the run starts again

The best possible score is 1,500, for eight right desks in one unbroken run. Consultants on site and the other special rounds above leave the scoring alone.

Daily and solo rounds

Each day’s eight reorgs are the same for everybody, desks and swaps included. Play yesterday’s round deals the previous day’s eight again, with no pizza slices and no best score.

Where the reorgs come from

While the partitions are up, HR reads one line over the speaker. We write every line by hand, and none of them is a clue.

One line says “reduction in force”, which is the full name of a RIF. Another announces “an involuntary career event”, which is involuntary termination in a costume.

In a real office, managers get their advice on a reorg from the HRBP.

Questions about Reorg

How do you play the shell game online?

Find your manager before the partitions go up, then follow their desk while the desks trade places. When they stop, press the desk your manager ended up at.

Is there a new Reorg every day?

Yes. A new round of eight arrives at your local midnight, and everyone gets the same desks and swaps. To play the day before, press Play yesterday's round.

Is the shell game fair?

Yes. The reorg doesn't start until the desks are on your screen. Your manager ends up at every desk about equally often, no matter which two desks swapped last.

Can I play Reorg on my phone?

Yes, in your phone's browser with nothing to install. The desks are the buttons, so you tap the one your manager ended up at. On a phone held sideways, the reorg waits until the row of desks fills the screen.
