WFO, WFH and the hybrid week
A hybrid week mixes WFO days with WFH days. In July 2025, most US hybrid workers had three or four WFO days a week. Five days of WFO is a full return to office.

None of these happen on a WFH day.
- Birthday cake in the kitchen at 3, announced by an email with the subject “Cake”.
- The fire drill, which always falls on your office day.
- The coworker who prints 80 slides double-sided by mistake.
- A two-minute talk by the elevator that settles a question the chat thread spent two days on.
- A day that ends at 10:45, after one coffee and a wave. That’s coffee badging.
- On a Monday, an alarm clock and a commute on top of the Sunday scaries.

Getting dressed for WFO
WFO days have a dress code even where none is written down. Dressing for the commute like it’s a runway is the office siren look.
On hot desking floors, you pack a bag as well as an outfit. Everything you work with comes in with you and gets set up again each morning.
At three letters, WFO is one of the shortest entries in our jargon dictionary, and at $55 a day, one of the priciest.
