EOY in a work email
End of which year
Which year EOY means depends on who sends it. In most work emails it’s the calendar year, so the deadline comes before the December break. Someone in finance may mean the company’s fiscal year instead.
Microsoft’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. October 2026 is Q4 on the calendar, but Microsoft is only a quarter into fiscal 2027, so its EOY is next June. Before you plan around someone else’s EOY, check what quarter it is by their company’s count.
The December cutoff
A calendar EOY deadline usually falls nearer the second Friday of December than December 31. By the middle of the month, half the team is on PTO.
